Our Story

Bibhash

Our Journey together

Bibhash Cultural Academy was founded in 2015 by an eminent cultural personality, Tanjina Toma, with a vision that was both simple and deeply personal—to create a nurturing space where music and the arts could be learned with care, discipline, and joy.

The journey began in Mirpur DOHS with a small group of around thirty students. There were no grand ambitions at the outset, just a commitment to teaching well, creating a warm learning environment, and building something meaningful, step by step.

Word spread quietly. Families spoke to other families. Performances in local events began to draw attention. What distinguished Bibhash was not scale, but sincerity, a focus on quality teaching, respect for tradition, and an openness to every learner who walked through its doors.

As the years progressed, the Academy grew, not through rapid expansion, but through trust. A dedicated group of teachers, each respected in their own field: vocal music, instrumental music, fine arts, and classical and Indian dance came together to shape the Academy’s identity. Their collective guidance ensured that students were not only trained, but mentored.

Bibhash students gradually found their place beyond the classroom—performing in cultural programs, schools, community events, and electronic media. These moments became milestones, reflecting both individual growth and the Academy’s evolving presence in the cultural landscape.

What began primarily as a learning space for school and college students has since expanded to embrace a wider and more inclusive community. Today, Bibhash works with:

  • Children with special needs
  • Adult learners rediscovering or beginning their artistic journeys
  • Children from disadvantaged communities
  • General learners across different age groups

This evolution was not without challenges. Like many institutions, Bibhash faced a difficult period during the COVID-19 pandemic. Classrooms fell silent, but the learning did not stop. The Academy adapted, moving to online platforms and maintaining continuity through dedication and resilience. That phase not only tested Bibhash, it strengthened it.

Over more than a decade, Bibhash Cultural Academy has earned recognition at both national and international levels, receiving appreciation and awards for its contribution to cultural education and community engagement. Yet, its core remains unchanged.

It is still, at heart, a place that began with a small group of learners and a belief that the arts can transform lives.

And that story continues—every day, in every class, with every student who becomes part of Bibhash.

Message from the Founder–Principal

Bibhash Cultural Academy began with a very simple dream:  to create a space where music and the arts could be learned with care, discipline, and a sense of belonging.

In the early days, it was just a small group of students and a shared enthusiasm for learning. Over time, that small beginning has grown into a vibrant community. What has remained unchanged, however, is the spirit with which Bibhash was founded. This is a belief that the arts can shape not only skills, but also character, confidence, and sensitivity.

Every student who comes to Bibhash brings a unique story. Some arrive with confidence, others with hesitation. Some come with experience, others with curiosity. Our role has always been to welcome each one, to guide them patiently, and to help them discover their own voice,  at their own pace.

One of the most meaningful aspects of our journey has been opening our doors to a wider and more inclusive community. This community includes children with special needs, adult learners, and those who may not otherwise have access to structured arts education. These experiences have deeply shaped who we are as an institution, reminding us that the true value of the arts lies in connection, expression, and dignity.

There have been challenges along the way. Times that tested our strength and continuity. Yet, with the support of our teachers, students, and families, we have continued — adapting, learning, and moving forward together.

Bibhash is not just an academy. It is a shared space of trust, creativity, and growth.

I remain grateful to everyone who has been part of this journey, and I look forward to continuing it, with the same sincerity, and with renewed hope for what lies ahead.
